Opa! Welcome to our annual Greek Food Festival in Bakersfield. Take a Hellenic vacation in your own backyard. A couple years ago we started a new tradition: We now have TWO festivals each year. One is in the spring and the other in the Fall. The Spring Festival is a one day Festival is held the Saturday before Mother's Day and the Fall Festival is always held the Friday & Saturday after Labor Day. Admission is always very inexpensive, somewhere around $5, (prices are subject to change). Kids under 12 are Free, and last year the Spring Festival had mothers for free at the gate.
Once inside, there is dancing, live Greek music, church tours and lots of food and even a tavern with beer and wine and Greek specialty drinks. If you have not tried Greek food, you are in for a treat. We have dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), gyros, spanikopita (spinach pie), Greek salads, Greek pastries and so much more. Also, for the brave, we have uzo and Metaxa...the traditional Greek drinks for that little boost of courage on the dance floor.
Come dance with us or just watch and listen to lively Greek music. We have Folk Dancers to entertain you with traditional Greek dances. Our dancers would love to teach you and there many opportunities to kick up your heals. We have shopping with local venders, games and activities for the kids. It's a great way to enjoy the weekend.
We also offer St. George Greek Orthodox Church tours lead by Father Joseph Chaffee.
Come and see the ancient faith of the people to whom St. Paul first evangelized when he went to the ancient cities you read about in the Bible. Cities where Christian communities have lived and worshiped the same way for nearly 2000 years. Through the the laying on of hands these communities go back to Jesus' Apostles. Today, there are about 300 million Orthodox Christians in the world, 2nd only to the Roman Catholic Church.
